John Joseph Alfieri

John Joseph Alfieri, age 89, of Ft. Washington, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 28, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary J. (Muraco), his son Michael (Bitsy Unkle), daughter Eileen (Rob Pennington), and son John (Sharon). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Alfieri of North Andover, Massachusetts. He is predeceased by his father and mother, his brothers Anthony, Frank, Charles and sisters Catherine Milone and Grace Buggea. Born in New London, Connecticut to Rosario and Gracia (Piazza) Alfieri, he was educated in Lawrence, MA and graduated from Lawrence High School. He worked as a barber and served in the Lawrence National Guard and the U.S. Army. John is a veteran of the Korean War and was stationed in Vassincourt, France as a medic. In Maryland, he worked as a barber for Joe Nicolosi in Hillcrest Heights and after many years opened his own barber shop in Marlow Heights. He also worked for Prudential Insurance until retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Forestville, MD. Mary was the love of his life and he would always say "I love my family."
