Virginia Lee Thomas

Virginia Thomas, of Elkridge, MD entered eternal life in the early afternoon on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the age of 67. Born July 15, 1949, in Washington, DC to Edgar and Anita Van Buskirk. She was raised and educated in Washington, DC and the surrounding Maryland area. Virginia was in the 1967 graduating class of Suitland High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Towson State University and her post-graduate degree from Bowie State University. Virginia met the love of her life, Gerald Thomas, while they were both teaching at Patterson High School in Baltimore, MD. They were married on October 5, 1996 at Ft. Meade Chapel where she continued to regularly attend services. Teaching was her passion. She taught English for years at Patterson High School before finishing teaching career at Southern High School. She was also a long-term part-time employee of Macy’s, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Gerald and her parents. She is survived by her stepdaughters Michelle D. Thomas of Raleigh, NC and Kelly N. Thomas of Atlanta, Ga; grandchildren Kiana Smith Thomas and Kendrick Allen, Jr.; sister Jeanne Edwards (Terrence) of Clinton, MD; nephew Devin Edwards of Clinton, MD; brothers-in-law John I. Thomas (Berthel) of Richmond, VA and Otis M. Thomas, Sr., of Hampton, VA; sister-in-law Janice Elaine Thomas of Hampton, VA; her beloved pet Romeo, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
