Anne Bowie Klopfer

January 12, 1930 — August 31, 2018

Anne Bowie Klopfer, of Upper Marlboro, MD passed on August 31, 2018 at the age of 88. Born in Washington, DC to Ethel Shields Bowie and Dr. Andrew Keene Bowie, a well-respected and loved physician on Capitol Hill. Anne grew up in Washington, DC. It was there that she met her husband, Charles Francis Klopfer. Anne and Charles were married in December of 1950. Anne enjoyed all of the benefits of coming from a large family and lived her life in the Catholic faith. Early on she learned to love the Blessed Mother and the Saints, believing in the healing powers of prayer and family. Anne and Charles were blessed with the gifts that 7 children brought into their life. Anne stayed at home, raising her children and teaching them about the values of life and providing the guidance to become strong men and women. After many years of marriage, Charles passed away in 1999. After her own children were grown, she began working as a Bank Teller with National Capitol Bank on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Anne enjoyed her job and loved her co-workers, retiring in 2010 at the age of 80 after 25 years of service. Anne loved singing, whether it was church hymns or love songs to her children or grandchildren. She was a member of the ladies Sodality group at St Mary’s church, participating in most social events. She also enjoyed the many bridge card games with her lady friends. Each liturgical season her home would be decorated to represent her beliefs of the seasons; the appearance of the Christmas Nativity scene or the Lily’s adorned during Easter. Her children were her lifeline and was always involved in their lives. She loved to travel with her sisters and her children to faraway places on vacations, to the beach or to the beach cottage, where endless summers were spent. Her children still reflect about the many family holidays, birthdays, or parties spent at Annie’s home which was also their grandparent’s home. She was always happy and busy, praying or lighting candles for all and anyone who called and needed a special prayer. God must have been listening, those candles always worked!
