Arthur Ellis Crofoot, Sr.

October 15, 1923 — April 19, 2011

Arthur was born October 15, 1923 to the late Ellis Arthur and Flora Esther Crofoot in Hannibal, NY. He was a multi-star athlete in high school in football, basketball, lacrosse, hockey and baseball. He enlisted in the Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was a decorated fighter pilot and after 23 years of service to his country he retired with honors as a Lieutenant Commander with last serving on the U.S.S. Intrepid which is now decommissioned as a museum in NY harbor. The next 23 years he worked as a branch manager at Citizens Bank of MD serving many branches in Prince George’s County. When he retired he was remembered as one who worked very hard for the less privileged to find affordable programs to get their first loan for home or small businesses.\nGolf was his passion. He was a scratch golfer who by the age of 50 had three hole-in-ones. After he could no longer play golf he took up cross-stitching and was known for creating detailed pieces which he sold at church functions for his parish. He was a devout Catholic and served in the Knights of St. Jerome. He was an avid Washington Capitals fan since their inception in 1974.\nHe passed away April 19, 2011 at the age of 87 and is survived by his wife Angela M. Crofoot, four children; Virginia L. Hannah, Chryss M. Guiler, Arthur Ellis Crofoot, Jr., and Patrick L. Crofoot, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. \nSurvived by his wife, Angela Crofoot, children; Virginia L. Hannah, Chryss M. Guiler, Arthur E. Crofoot, Jr., and Patrick L. Crofoot, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Arthur was a member of the Legion and the Knights of St. Jerome.
