"Artie" Arthur Francis Sherwood

November 28, 1961 — April 15, 2021

In loving memory of the one we loved; may his brightness always shine down from above. “Artie” Arthur Francis Sherwood, Jr. of Prince Frederick, MD passed suddenly, on April 15, 2021 at the age of 59 years. Born in Cheverly, MD, the son of the late Arthur Francis Sherwood, Sr., and Thelma Hunt “Timmie” of Lusby, MD. Artie knew what loss meant when his father died. As a young boy it changed everything about his world. In addition to his sadness, he experienced some separation distress at the time, but had the loving support of his Aunt Juanita whom he lived with for a bit. His mom eventually remarried and Artie received one of the best gifts a child can have; a father who would raise him with love. Thomas Hunt treated Artie as his own son, with a life where he experienced an incredible joy that came down and through him, and Artie passed it onto all of us. After high school, Artie worked with his Dad as a pressman, a job he enjoyed for the next 15 years of his life. Tragedy found Artie again, this time his pain was physical after a car accident that left him in a coma for three weeks and multiple surgeries to repair his injuries. His battle with serious medical issues showed his courage when facing life’s challenges, often with a smile on his face. Despite his daily pain, Artie stayed strong to the end. Artie’s life changed with the love that Carolyn showered him and his Mom with after his accident. She called her daily to get updates and then even went to visit him in the hospital. That love brought them together in marriage on November 26, 1994. Their 27th anniversary would have been this year. During those years, Artie and Carolyn continued to grow in love and eventually brought AJ into this life. Artie earned his CDL license and drove a tractor trailer for about 10 years. Artie was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend to many. He enjoyed metal detecting, prospecting for “gold. He had a dry sense of humor, an incredible sweet tooth, boundless compassion for others and yes, he was a turtle lover who moved those little guys out of harm’s way, many times. Aunt Grace was a favorite in his life with her gifts of her “special coffee”. From early on, it was no secret that Artie demonstrated a true love for his family. He loved his family and wanted them near. He liked his friends and continued to make new ones. He like to share and help others. Artie had an affinity for the outdoors; he loved to fish and camp. Artie raised his sons to be men of the earth. He showed them that living meant being kind, willful and giving back to the world. His greatest acts of emotional generosity will continue on through his loved ones with his comforting words, “I love you big much”. Beloved husband of Carolyn Sherwood; Loving son of “Timmie” Thelma Hunt of Lusby, MD and the late Arthur F. Sherwood, Sr. and the late Thomas Ore Hunt; Dearest father of Charles Thomas Hood and wife Heather of Huntingtown, MD and “A.J.” Arthur F. Sherwood IV and wife Nicole of Prince Frederick, MD; Sweetest Granddaddy to Gavin Thomas Hood, Isabelle Grace Hood, Christopher Clark Sherwood and Scarlette Ann Sherwood; Dear brother of Donald Sherwood and wife Joyce of Mt. Airey, MD; Most memorable nephew of Grace Lee McCarthy Costello and husband Ken, Jean Carolyn Nelson and husband Larry, Judy Shreve, Jean King and Juanita Plummer.
