Betty "Craft" J. Denbow

July 15, 1940 — May 17, 2020

Betty “Craft” Jane Denbow of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at the age of 79. Betty was born on July 15, 1940, to Garland and Goldie Craft, in Widen, WV, the seventh of eight children. She attended public schools in Widen, WV and Glenville State Teachers College in Glenville, WV. As she was completing her second year there, federal government agency recruiters arrived on campus to test and recruit prospective employees to work at the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Excited and intrigued by this new opportunity, Betty tested for and readily accepted a position with FHA. She was soon bound for Washington, D.C. in August 1960 to report to her first and only employer, spanning almost 42 years, before retiring in March 2002. On August 26, 1961, Betty was united in holy matrimony with David Joseph Denbow. They were blessed with two children: a daughter, Melinda Leigh and a son, David Scott. Betty was a devoted grandmother to her granddaughters, Olivia, Rebecca “Becca” and Hannah Wilson; and to her grandson Grayson Denbow. She so enjoyed just spending time and playing games with them, or attending their extra-curricular activities. Betty was an active member of Divine Peace Lutheran Church in Largo, MD, since 1984; where she served on the Altar Guild and the Fellowship Committee. Over the course of many years, Betty enjoyed the challenge of trying her hand at numerous crafts: ceramics, macramé, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching and toll painting. In more recent years, she enjoyed traveling and discovered her love for digital scrapbooking. She also enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, Michael Wayne Denbow, her siblings, Gene Dwight Craft, David Carl Craft and Elizabeth Irene Shelton. She is survived by David, her loving husband of 57 years; her daughter Melinda and son-in-law Frank Wilson, of Prince Frederick, MD; her son, David Scott and daughter-in-law Anna Denbow, of Elkridge, MD and her grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Gary Craft (Joan) of Bradenton, FL and Paul Craft (Carol) of Middletown, RI. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Betty "Craft" J.
