Donna-Marie Hynes Johnson

December 11, 1943 — January 30, 2020

Donna-Marie Hynes Johnson, 76, passed away in INOVA Alexandria Hospital, January 30, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Donna resided in District Heights, MD and was a graduate of Suitland High School. Following graduation, she was employed by the Small Business Administration and served as the Administrative Assistant to the Administrator. She was recognized on numerous occasions for her outstanding performance in that position. Donna married her sweetheart, Bill Johnson in 1967, and they remained soulmates for more than 50 years. A few years after her marriage, she left her career to start a family. One of the highlights of her life was the birth of her daughter, Jenny in 1974. Donna was thrilled with the opportunity to be a full time mom, but after numerous years, she rejoined the workforce. Initially, she accepted a number of temporary jobs, but she eventually had the good fortune to be employed by the law firm Weatherly, Schiszik & Isen. She loved her time there and the attorneys and staff at this firm turned out to be more like a family to Donna than business associates. Donna was intelligent, fun loving and could brighten a room with her quick wit and beautiful smile. She had a special talent for making anyone she met feel special and loved within seconds of meeting them. From childhood she loved dancing and singing and could wow an audience with her talent. Her love for music and theater continued through her life and she attended many concerts and theater performances with her family. She was an avid reader and had a flair for writing both poetry and heartfelt messages to family and friends. Donna was proud of her Irish heritage and had a strong faith. She found great comfort from watching religious programs and reading her daily devotionals, but her greatest inspiration was her only grandchild, Sophie. Donna was always interested in every aspect of Sophie’s life and provided her with encouragement and praise. Donna was predeceased by her mother, Lillian Hynes, father, William Hynes, brother, Bill Hynes, sisters, Sister Marie Antoinette and Charlotte Macchio, sister-in-law, Bonnie Trail, and mother-in-law Julia Johnson. She was the beloved wife of William B. Johnson, loving mother of Jennifer K. Johnson (Henry Salazar), adoring grandmother of Sophia Ashley Johnson Salazar, sister-in-law of Bev Johnson and Gary Trail, and aunt to many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the COPD Foundation. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Donna-Marie Hynes Johnson please visit our Sympathy Store.
