SSgt Ellecer Nathan Cortes-Peck (USMC) On October 28, 2019, Staff Sergeant Ellecer "Nate" Cortes-Peck died in a vehicle accident in Murietta, CA on his commute to work. Nate was a 30-year-old active duty Raider serving in Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC). He was born on January 16, 1989 in Boston, MA. He attended Saint Christopher in Nashua, NH and Plum Point Elementary/Middle School in Huntingtown, MD. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School (2007) in Hyattsville, MD; and attended briefly LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February 2008. After graduating Basic Training, Nate served two combat tours in Afghanistan with 3RD Battalion/ 4TH Marines, and 3RD LAR. Nate attended Assessment & Selection (A&S) to become a Marine Raider in 2012, and was selected to earn the title "Marine Raider" after he successfully graduated the MARSOC vigorous 9-month Individual Training Course (ITC). Following ITC, SSgt Cortes-Peck reported to his current unit, 1ST Marine Raider BN where he served (3) team deployments to a variety of countries across the Pacific, Middle Eastern and North American Theater. SSgt Cortes-Peck most recently returned from his last deployment serving a 7-month tour in Iraq. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ Valor Combat Distinguishing Device. He is survived by his wife, Erika Renee Leyva, his mother, Cecilia Cortes-Peck, and grandmother, Laura Lee Peck. He was preceded in death by his father, James Frederick Peck (2011); grandfathers Rosendo Carlos Cortes (1990) and Edward Denton Peck, USMC (2019); grandmother Rosalina Balbanero Eugenio Cortes (2005); and uncles, his namesake, Ellecer Eugenio Cortes (1970); and John David Peck (1976). Scheduled Services A Remembrance Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the San Onofre Historic Beach Club in Camp Pendleton, CA. IDs are mandatory for base-access. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 10:00 am at Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church, 885 Cox Road, Huntingtown, MD 20639. Everyone is invited. Reception will follow after the Mass in Doran Hall at JDW. The Final Resting Place and Interment Service will be celebrated in late February 2020 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA 22211; limited to private, family and invited guests only.
