Ernest James Day, Jr. of Sunderland, MD passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the age of 75. He was born in Washington, DC, on March 4, 1945, the only child of Ella [Smith] and Ernest James Day, Sr. Ernest graduated from Suitland Senior High School on June 10, 1964. On September 14, 1964, he was inducted into the United States Army. He was stationed at USAR (1-16) Fort Bragg, NC and later transferred to USAR CON Cp (Ann Teg) USAAC St. Louis, MO. On September 13, 1971, Ernest received an Honorable discharge. During his service, he was in the XVIII Airborne Corps and received the PRCHT Badge and National Defense Service Medal. After the military, he worked as a power lineman for Rockingham Construction Company until 2000. He then worked for Potomac Electric Power Company also as a power lineman until his retirement in 2012. Ernest is survived by his step-sisters, Pamela Meadows, Nancy Lee and Patricia Windsor and step-brothers, Chris Stergiou and Wayne Windsor. He is also survived by his Godson, Jeffrey Windsor, niece, Alyssa Windsor and nephew, Randy Windsor. Due to the Covid 19 virus, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A private burial with full military honors will also be at a later date.
