Genevieve Proctor

Genevieve V. Proctor departed her earthly life on Friday, August 30, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was 90 years of age. Genevieve was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clinton, MD. Genevieve Veronica Proctor was born on November 14, 1928 in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She was the 7th child of the late Marshall and Elizabeth Ollie Proctor. Genevieve was raised and attended school in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Genevieve married James W. Proctor of Clinton, Maryland. From this union eight children were born, Patricia, James, Jr., Joyce, LaVerne, Joseph (deceased), Nancy, Thomas (Darren) and Jeffrey. She also assisted in raising her niece, Charlene “Vicky” Proctor who she considered a daughter. Genevieve and James raised their family in Clinton, Maryland and were married for 45 years. Genevieve took great pride in her family. After raising her children and helping to care for her grandchildren, Genevieve worked for the Prince Georges County School System. She was a very hard worker and loved her job. She retired from the PG school system in May 2009. Genevieve loved, and was loved by her family and friends. It was very important to her to teach her children the meaning of family and to always lookout for each other. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Genevieve especially enjoyed celebrating holidays and special occasions with her family. Genevieve's joy of Christmas made each and every Christmas holiday beautiful, joyous and very memorable. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, word search puzzle books, trying new recipes, playing spades, bingo, and casino trips. Each of her family members and friends enjoyed the special relationship they shared with her. She is survived by: her children, Patricia Campbell, James W. Proctor Jr., Joyce Blake (Randolph), LaVerne Street (Calvin), Nancy Dowdy (Ronald), Thomas Proctor, Jeffrey Proctor. She also leaves to cherish her memory: grandchildren, James Brian Proctor, Kimberly Blake Jackson (Jeremiah), Cynthia Heather Campbell, Benjamin H. Blake Jr. (Elisa), Crystal Julia Maddox (Lemond), Chad Donnell Street (Tammy), Destiny Lynn Dowdy, Jason Walter Street (Katherine), Ryan Stewart Dowdy, David A. Tairu, Mykal R. Tairu, Neiko Marquis Proctor, Stephen Jamar Proctor, Sade Dorothy Annette Alfred, James Matthew Proctor (Elexus) and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Gwendolyn, Carolyn, Mary “Sis”, and brothers, Johnny, Vic, Eugene “Buddy”, Hurley, and Larry; and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by: parents, Marshall and Ollie Proctor; sisters, Gladys, Marguerite, Elsie and Loretta; brothers, Monroe, Archie, Tommy, Gwynnie and Leo.
