Gerald "Jerry" Henry Hopp II

November 21, 1947 — October 26, 2019

Gerald “Jerry” Henry Hopp II passed away peacefully, but too soon on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Jerry was born November 21, 1947 in Pontiac, MI to Gerald Henry Hopp and Dorothy Mae Brocklehurst. Growing up in Livonia, MI, he graduated from Franklin High School class of 1965, and from Wayne State University in Detroit. Jerry married Susan Kay Hurst on June 1st 1974, they made their homes in Detroit and Livonia before relocating to Connecticut and finally Maryland. Jerry was always creative, absorbed by music and art, and his work reflected that creativity. He worked in visual merchandising and display at J. L. Hudson, Crowleys, Ames Departments Stores, and the Hechinger Company. He retired from the Annapolis Lighting Company where he designed and sold residential and commercial lighting. He loved this work, and no visit to a restaurant or museum passed without his comment on the interesting fixtures or inefficient placement he saw. Music was Jerry’s great joy outside of work and family. Folk songs and popular music were fixtures of family gatherings throughout his life, and his eclectic disk jockeying will always be remembered at home. Jerry started playing the acoustic guitar and harmonica at a young age, picking up the electric guitar in the early 2000s. His lifelong interest then bloomed into a rich and engrossing passion. He made many musical friends in Southern Maryland and spent hours playing, learning, and singing, on his own or with a band. Music will always be a part of his memory for those who love Jerry. He is survived by his wife, Susan, son Corey, daughter-in-law Erica (LaMagna) his granddaughter, Lyra, and his four sisters: Jamie Gindele (Gary), Janette Poe (Wayne), Jean Jones (Gary), and Jane Rathbun. Brother in law to Ann and Roger Bejcek and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to the following 2 services: The first will be in Maryland on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Lee Funeral Home at 8200 Jennifer Ln, Owings, MD 20736. There will be a visitation with music starting at 1:00, and a Memorial service at 3:00. The second will be in Michigan on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church at 9601 Hubbard St, Livonia, MI 48150. Visitation will begin at 1:00, Memorial service at 2:00, followed immediately by interment at Redford Cemetery at 15958 Telegraph Rd Redford, MI 48239. His energy and creativity will be greatly missed. Please join us to reminisce, grieve, and celebrate Jerry’s life. We would like to invite you to make donations in Jerry's memory in place of flowers. Some suggestions for charities are linked here. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute: This Cancer Institute has special programs for outreach and screening for Lynch Syndrome, the inherited genetic condition that has affected so much of Jerry's family.
