Helen Eldridge

Helen E. Eldridge departed this life peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2020, at Prince George's Hospital Center in Maryland. She was born to Floyd and Sarah (Carver) Baynes on December 17, 1935, in Roxboro, North Carolina. Along with her siblings, her parents moved the family to Washington, D.C.. A few years later Helen met her future husband Curtis B. Eldridge. The couple were married on April 27, 1957. This union produced two children, Darlene (Montgomery) and Curtis Jr.. Helen worked in several places prior to joining Safeway. While there she was known as polite, courteous, friendly and hardworking. She had a fondness for her coworkers and customers alike. She made numerous friends, several of whom became lifelong friends, especially her best friend, Alice. Helen's retirement years were spent staying in touch with her beloved family and friends, traveling while she could, her puzzle books and attending church service at Ebenezer A.M.E. until she physically couldn't. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Curtis Sr., her mother and father, an older Brother Floyd, a younger sister Linda, two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Eleanor, her brother-in-law Calvin Sr., a son-in-law Spurgeon, two nieces, and a nephew. She is survived by her children Darlene and Curtis Jr., a daughter-in-law Rita, her sister Leona, brother-in-law Robert Lee, a brother Jessie, five sisters-n-law, Mabel, Jean, Betty, Delores and Nellie, grandsons Spurgeon (Monty), Spurgeon B. (Spud) and Curtis (Packy), granddaughters, Jessica and Sharon, great grandchildren Ajhanae, Jailyn, Cierra, Cypher, Sadi-Mae, Owen, Aster and Jakob, as well as her numerous remaining and much loved nieces and nephews along with a host of other family and friends. The viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, 7707 Allentown Road, Ft. Washington, Maryland. Interment will immediately follow at National Harmony Cemetery, 7101 Sheriff Road, Landover, Maryland.
