James Cathro

June 10, 1933 — November 5, 2019

James “Jim” Cathro, 86, of Clinton, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 5, 2019. Jim was born on June 10, 1933 to David and Sybella Cathro in Holyoke, MA and was the youngest of four children, having three older sisters, Sybella (Bill) Ford, Thelma (Doug) Riley and Audrey (Len) Boyle. Jim married the the love of his life, Nancy on May 25, 1962 and they spent most of their days side by side. Jim survived raising his seven children, David, Douglas, Amy (Bert), Mark, Michael(Karen), Teresa (Billy),and Jennifer. And we all know which one was his favorite. He and Nancy welcomed all friends of their children with the same unconditional love that they showed their own. Jim spent 2 years in the U.S. Army and the rest of his 36 year career as a civilian Photo Interpreter for Navel Intelligence receiving numerous commendations for his work. This position was perfect for him because he was an avid photographer documenting the lives of his children and grandchildren. Most of all what he loved to do was travel with Nancy, whether it was just a Sunday drive or on the many cruises they took. He loved a good joke, a good laugh and he loved having his family around, including his grandchildren Ashley, Jamie, Ryan, Dominic, Donovin, Megan, Danny and Logan. He especially enjoyed his silly hound dogger Pico. He was an avid collector of Americana memorabilia which is currently up for bids on eBay (his family inherited his sense of humor). He also enjoyed watching TV (a little too loud), working in his yard, and puttering around. We would like to give a very special thank you to Regina Kempf and Karen Brown for all their help through the years and to Holy Cross Hospital for the exceptional care they gave our father and family during this time. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his memory to The Mary Surratt House, 9118 Brandywine Road, Clinton MD 20735 or Cosca Park Clearwater Nature Center, 11400 Thrift Road, Clinton, MD 20735 To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of James Cathro please visit our Sympathy Store.
