John Earl Dickson

June 29, 1943 — October 9, 2018

John Earl Dickson, 75, of Forestville, MD passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in his sleep. John was born on June 29, 1943, the son of the late Amelia Phoebe Ellis and the late Allan William Dickson of Prince Edward Island, Canada. John was raised and educated in Forestville, MD, and was a graduate of Suitland High School. An amazing, wonderful, loving, and caring family man, he went on to raise his family in Clinton, MD. John worked at Lorton Landfill as a supervisor. From 1966 to 1970 he proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve as an aircraft mechanic. A man of great faith, John was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Forestville, MD where he served as a lay reader and was on the search committee for ministers. In his leisure time, he combined his enjoyment of helping others and building things into a hobby he greatly enjoyed; that of being a handyman. John also loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed grilling for family events. John had a passion for traveling and a deep love for animals. Niagara Falls was his favorite place to visit. His other great passionate love was his family: his loving devoted wife Sharon Dickson of 50 years; his sons and their wives, John & Jody Dickson Jr. and David & Marta Dickson; granddaughters, Taylor and Mikalya; daughter Amber Dickson; and former daughter-in-law Kelly Leeson. Besides his faithful family he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Beavers-Prediger. John is also survived by his nephews, Robert Beavers, Jeffrey Beavers; his nephew Jeff’s wife Elizabeth; his grandnephew Joseph; and grandniece Brandy. Additionally he leaves behind his greatly loved cats, Precious, Mischief, and Eli and beloved dog, Peanut. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in John's name to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517/https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
