Joseph "Joe" Domnick Vasco, Jr.

May 15, 1935 — January 31, 2020

On Friday, January 31, 2020 Joseph Domnick Vasco, Jr, passed into eternal rest. Formerly of Upper Marlboro, Stevensville and Annapolis, MD and Hobe Sound, FL. He was the loving husband and father of four daughters. Some called him; Joe, Juney, Chief, Colonel, Grandad, Uncle and Dad - he answered to many names, he passed away peacefully just 48 days after losing his wife of 65 years, Betty (Singler) Vasco. He was born in Washington, DC on May 15, 1935 to Joseph D. and Laura Grace Vasco. He attended Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He earned Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminal Justice from American University. Joe lived a life of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served dutifully with; the Maryland State Police, the Prince George’s County Police, the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Natural Resources Police and as Chief of the Centreville (MD) Police Department. On May 16, 1954, he married Elizabeth Ann (Singler) Vasco. They raised four daughters, Lynn, Lisa, Sheryl and Christina. Joe epitomized a true leader, he rose through the ranks of several police departments. He attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session 92. Good enough was never good enough. He had to do it bigger, better and with more style then it had been done before. He led by example through the knowledge, skills, ethics and abilities he acquired throughout his life time. He was the quintessential Policeman’s Policeman. A pillar in Prince George’s County, he rarely went anywhere he did not meet a friend or ‘brother’. When he wasn’t working, he could be found on a golf course or hanging with his best dog Shag. He was the cornerstone of a large biological and “Blue” family and he will be missed dearly. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his granddaughter Stephanie. He is survived by his four children, Lynn (Michael) Bernardon, Lisa (David) McClintock, Sheryl Carmody (Joe) and Christina Williams, his sister Rose Ann Schneider, 10 grandchildren, 4 great and one great-great grandchild, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and life-long friends.
