Landon "Bill" McCracken Jr.

July 11, 1938 — August 8, 2019

Landon W. McCracken “Bill” passed peacefully, on the early morning of August 8th, 2019 with his family by his side. Born in Wallace, Virginia to Lena Mae (Gobble) McCracken and Landon William McCracken, Sr. Bill grew up in Bristol, Virginia. When he was only 17 he met Pat Jones, and 10 months later, they were married. They were meant for each other and just celebrated 62 years of marriage on August 5th. In 1962, Bill and Pat moved to the Capitol Heights, Maryland area, settled down and raised 6 children. Bill became a Master Plumber and worked for Local 5. There was no one more important to Bill than his family- his wife Pat called him “Rascal” a word of endearment over the years. He and Pat used to have a fridge on their back porch, always stocked with soda pop and snacks, not only for their kids, but also the neighborhood children. His grandchildren each grew to know him as their Grand-dad and B-dad. Bill enjoyed bragging and talking about them or just being with them. A Christian man, he was. Ask anyone in Fellowship Baptist, Bill’s church family for many years. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix. He was proud to be a Deacon for his church, for many years. He taught Sunday school and could be found at most church suppers and holidays. After all, this was an extension of his home. Bill was a skilled hunter, teaching his sons the ways in the world of nature. Fishing was more than just casting a line and waiting for a bite; it was a family outing and picnic time that the whole family treasured. He found the reflections of life as he gazed upon those waters and there was peace and tranquility. In addition to all the children in his life, Bill found time for his furbabies - Lucky, Raven and Rascal. He was quite fond of Missy and Suzy who met him at the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday morning. Beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” Jones McCracken; Devoted father of Debra K. McCracken (Orloff) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Vickie L. Rush (Anthony) of Laurel, MD, Shirley D. Swann (Ernest) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Richard A. McCracken (Christine) of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Roger W. McCracken (Annette) of Glen Burnie, MD; loving brother of Anne Akers of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Becky Yarbrough (Nat) of McEwen, Tennessee; Dearest grandfather of William L. McCracken (Nicki), Shaun McCracken (Gabrielle), Amber McCracken (Charles), Shania Bruch, Jonathan Walker (Mihriban), James Walker (Elizabeth), Dawn Jones (James), Rob Garner (Stephanie) and Amanda Helms (Eric); most honored great-grandfather of Trinitee, Shyanne, Leigha, Nixon, Tristan, Cole, Jonathan, Kayra, Landon, Katarina, Leland, Gabe and Kaitlyn. Those who predeceased Bill and welcomed him home are his parents, the late Lena Mae and Landon William McCracken, Sr., his daughter, the late Tammy S. Walker and 3 Brothers and 8 Sisters.
