Leroy Joseph Hedgepeth III

LeRoy Joseph Hedgepeth III of Silver Spring, MD., age 90 died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD on September 25, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cleo Pickens Hedgepeth; children Dawn Hedgepeth Carter, LeRoy Joseph Hedgepeth IV; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Army Col.(Ret.) Hedgepeth graduated from Hampton University where he played Varsity Basketball and was in the ROTC program. He honorably served 21 years including combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. His honors include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars (for combat); two Army Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring, in 1975, he worked with the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission retiring in 1995 as the Executive Director.
