Lois Coratolo

January 20, 1929 — June 17, 2019

Lois Mary Coratolo was born on January 20, 1929. She passed peacefully in her home in Upper Marlboro, MD on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the age of 90. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, dearest grandmother and wonderful great grandmother. A native Washingtonian, she was the daughter of Ruth Clifford (Trazzare) Wright and Thomas Curtis Wright. Lois was one of 8 children. She had four older brothers; Joseph, Thomas, David, Clifford; one older sister; Mariam and two younger sisters Roberta and Claire, all of whom predeceased her. She was blessed to enjoy their love and friendship throughout her life. In 1946 her family expanded when she met the Coratolo’s: Louis, Leo, Elvina, Jersey, Blora and parents Josephine and John. She met the girls first and became like a fourth sister. It wasn’t long after that she met their older brother, Leo...a meeting orchestrated by the sisters and their mom. It was love at first sight and they were married on July 10, 1948. Lois and Leo had three children. Giovanni, Jeannie and Leona. Lois was the wind beneath Leo’s wings as he opened many small businesses and was also in the restaurant business. Their marriage was one of mutual love and respect, and Lois’ sun rose and set with Leo. On January 30, 1978, Lois’ world crashed when Leo died suddenly of a stroke. Fortunately, weddings and grandchildren followed, keeping Lois busy and surrounded by love, but there wasn’t a day that passed in the 40 years that followed that she didn’t miss Leo and mention his name. Lois leaves behind her children Giovanni Coratolo and his wife Cathy of Aldie, VA, Jeannie Coratolo of Upper Marlboro, MD and Leona Parker and her husband Mike of Kent Island, MD; Her grandchildren Joseph Coratolo, Jennifer Calderone and her husband Nick, Jeff Coratolo and his wife Brittany, Michael Parker and his wife Anne and Brian Parker; her great grandchildren Leo Anthony Calderone, Mila Rose Calderone, Sawyer DiSimone Coratolo, Amelia Hensler Parker and Louisa Hensler Parker; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her deep devotion to God and family, her joyous demeanor and her gentle spirit. She touched the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She was surrounded by the continuous love of her family. Lois’ last years were greatly enhanced by the daily dedication of her daughter Jeannie and her wonderful team of caregivers. They accompanied her to her favorite breakfast spot, the Dutch market and allowed her to enjoy the breeze in her hair and warm sunshine on her face. Lois was a woman of faith, a woman of dedication, a loving woman and a woman who will be missed by many.
