Lucille A Cardellino

May 5, 1937 — February 17, 2019

Lucille Ann Cardellino, 81, of Upper Marlboro, MD, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 17, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Hector James Cardellino, Jr.; dear mother of Carol Ann Farrington (Phillip), Joseph Michael Cardellino, Andrea Marie Torrey (Robert), and Christine Lynn Gates; dear grandmother of Samantha Ann Murray (Todd), Haley Elizabeth Gates, and Joshua Stephen Gates; great grandmother of Jase James Murray and Hannah Jean Murray; sister-in-law of Margaret (Peggy) Louise Pariso. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Carmine Pariso and Caroline Mary Pariso. She was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony Pariso. Lucille (Lucy) was born on May 5, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York. Her family moved to Washington, DC in 1945, where she attended Saint Dominic’s Catholic School. After graduating from Saint Dominic’s High School in 1955, she worked for the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. At the age of 19, she met her husband, Hector, after he returned home from his service in the U.S. Navy. They united in marriage in 1959 and moved to Baltimore, MD, where they started their family. In 1970, they moved to Upper Marlboro, MD, where they raised their four children together and were longstanding members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They were married for 44 years. Lucy worked at the U.S. Census Bureau until 1994, when she retired after almost 30 years of civilian Federal Government service. Lucille was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to raising her children, she worked and volunteered her time to the Catholic Church. Along with her devotion to Christ and the Church, she enjoyed various hobbies including sewing, reading, cooking, shopping, decorating, playing cards and games, movies, and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved family gatherings every Sunday with her family, when everyone would enjoy a big Italian dinner or a big crab feast. She loved hosting every holiday at her house and looked forward to visiting with her brother, Tony, and his family during the holidays. She enjoyed many visits from her nieces and nephews over the years and loved reminiscing with them. Once her grandchildren were born, her favorite thing to do was to spend time with them. She often talked about her memories of Brooklyn, NY, where she spent time with a large family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She loved going to the movies and to Coney Island, NY with her aunts and cousins. Lucille kept in touch with her two dearest friends from high school, Margarita and Lois, until the very end of her life. They called each other often and enjoyed talking on the phone. She had a very kind, gentle demeanor and was a wonderful, selfless person. She always put her family’s needs first, before her own, and she never complained. She loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. They brought the greatest joy to her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/), Disabled American Veterans (https://www.dav.org/), or Children’s National Medical Center (formerly Children’s Hospital), 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20010-2916 (https://childrensnational.org/).
