Marjorie M. Sproesser

November 7, 1932 — June 6, 2020

Marjorie Maye Sproesser (Murray) was granted her eternal rest on June 6, 2020 at the age of 87. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother of 6 children, grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of six. She was a true example of love in action to her parents, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors and all whom she encountered. “Margie” was born the fifth child to Francis Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Murray in Washington, D.C. on the day F.D.R. was elected, and was raised on the Murray farm in TB, Maryland until the family moved to the City where she graduated from St. Cecelia’s Academy in 1951. There she made many lifelong friends. She fell in love with Paul Joseph Sproesser and they married on February 7, 1953, and lived in Congress Heights until they moved to Clinton, MD in 1964. Paul passed away in the year 2000, but Margie lived there for 56 years. Together they loved theirs and everyone else’s children, and gave their family a warm and fun-loving home where all family, friends and neighbors were welcome. Margie and Paul gave life to Carol Marie (Sproesser) Lee, James Michael Sproesser (Marcia), Mary Kathryn (Sproesser) Horsmon (Ed), Paula Jean Sproesser (Joe), Paul Joseph Sproesser, Jr., and Kevin Francis Sproesser (d. 2019). Although most of her life was devoted to raising a family and babysitting, in 1969 Margie learned to drive, and went to work for The U. S. Census Bureau in Suitland, MD as a statistician. Her name was listed as an author in each published statistical manual until her retirement at age 62. Margie had a passion for friendship, reading, poetry, music, cooking, history, geography and gardening, among others. She traveled to her ancestral home of Ireland and was proud of her Irish roots. She was a devout member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton for 56 years where she was a Eucharistic Minister and active member of many groups over the years. She was also an officer in the Silver Hill Lions Club, the longest standing member of her beloved TOPS chapter, and a member of numerous community improvement organizations. Margie was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, infectious smile and warm hugs. She could bravely enter into another’s pain to comfort and provide wisdom and faith. Her Faith in God and devotion to the Blessed Mother were at the core of her outreach to many who needed her. Margie is survived by her sisters, Anna P. Murray and Rose Marie Murray and brother, John O. Murray (Joy), as well as many nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews. Her brother, Francis Murray, and sisters, Mary Frances Mazzullo and Catherine Loretta Reed have gone before her. Their reunion will be joyful! Visitation and prayers will be held at Lee’s Funeral Home in Clinton, MD on Wednesday, June 17th at 1:00 p.m., with viewing for 2 hours prior (11-1). Visitors are welcome, but restrictions due to Covid-19 limit visitors to 10 in the chapel at one time. Visitors will rotate in and out to accommodate all those who wish to say goodbye. A memorial Mass and celebration of Margie’s life will take place at St. John’s Church at a date later in the year when the threat of the virus has passed. Burial will be private and limited to her children. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Marjorie M. Sproesser please visit our Sympathy Store.
