Mary "Yvonne" Nielsen

Mary “Yvonne” Nielsen, age 85, of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the House of Joseph Assisted Living home where she received excellent care. She was born on June 21, 1933 in Washington, DC to the Late Laurence Moreland Straub and Mary Isabelle Fowler. She grew up in Oxon Hill, MD; where she graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1951. She married Robert Peter Nielsen in October 1951 and they were happily married for almost 40 years. He passed away in 1991. Yvonne enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed watching the Washington Nationals baseball games. She was a patient, thoughtful and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Yvonne was the beloved wife of the Late Robert Peter Nielsen, loving mother to Linda Mathis (Tommy) of District Heights, MD, Larry Nielsen of Upper Marlboro, MD, Donald Nielsen (Sharon) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Jean Linville (Ron) of San Marcos, CA; devoted grandmother to Rhonda Edelen (Mike) of Faulkner, MD, Jimmy Nielsen (Jeree) of Lothian, MD, Devin Linville of Columbus, OH and Monica Linville of Long Beach, CA; and great-grandmother to Abby Edelen and Samara Nielsen. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, James Straub. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Josephs Center, 11704 Duley Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD, 20772 on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11 A.M.
