Michael Gerard Ransom

January 20, 1972 — July 20, 2019

Michael “Mike” G. Ransom, 47, beloved husband, father, brother, teacher, coach, and friend passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 with his family surrounding him. Mike was born on January 20, 1972 in Washington DC. He grew up in Clinton, MD and graduated from Bishop McNamara HS in 1991. He obtained his teaching degree from Salisbury University and his Master’s in Special Education and Administration from the College of Notre Dame. His teaching career began over 20 years ago at Northeast High School and continued at Queen Anne’s High School and Great Mills High School. He truly enjoyed teaching, especially his special education students. Coaching lacrosse was his passion. He was the head coach at Northeast High School and Queen Anne’s High School (State Championship Lacrosse Coach 2010); assistant coach at North Caroline High School, The Calverton School, and most recently the head JV coach at St. Mary’s Ryken High School. Coach Mike was the founder of Triple Threat Lacrosse travel team and a former Cannons coach. His list of accomplishments and ways he has touched the community are endless. He was active in his church community at Our Mother of Sorrows in Centreville, MD. He had a huge heart, and his legacy will continue through those he taught and coached. Mike is survived by his wife, Michele, and their three children: Brittany (20), Nicholas (18), and Emily (15); his sisters Mary Dunlap (Scot), Phillis McVey (Jim), Margaret Butler (Troy); nephews: Brian Dunlap, Matt Dunlap, James McVey (Kelly), Troy Butler Jr, Phillip Butler, Jason Green, Travis Green, Ethan Fantozzi; nieces: Megan Coughlin (Jacob), Hannah McVey, Rachel Green, Ava Willis; sister-in-laws: Christy Jacobs (Angie Willis) and Cathy Fantozzi; brother-in-law, Matthew Jacobs (Brittany) and mother-in-law, Gail Jacobs, along with his great nephews and nieces: Logan Coughlin, Kaleb Coughlin, Conner Dunlap, Henry McVey, Carolina McVey, Emma Jacobs, countless boys he coached and many close friends, especially: Kitty Harple, Kevin Carr (and family); Miguel Mouton (and family). Mike was preceded in death by his parents, B. Phillip Ransom and Josephine Ransom and niece, Sara Willis. Mike loved his family so much; they were his world. He really enjoyed watching his children play the sport he loved to coach. In memory of his life, there will be a visitation on Friday, August 16th at 1:00 pm at St. John Vianney in the Festival Room followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 pm. Hospice took amazing care of Mike over the last year, and especially at the Burnett Calvert Hospice House during the last four weeks of his life.
