Myrth Brown

March 31, 1941 — April 11, 2020

Myrth Evangeline Brown, age 79 of Capital Heights MD, departed this life on Saturday, April 11, 2020. She was born March 31, 1941 to the late Albert and Doris Melbourne. She attended Spring Garden Primary School and was a member of the 4H Club which eventually led to her migrating to the United States. Myrth moved to Kingston in her teens where she met and married Elva Lloyd Brown. She later migrated to the US (1960) to make a better life for her children and family. For many years, she worked as a private duty nurse and then as a nursing assistant for Sibley Memorial Hospital (20+yrs) where she retired in 2006. During this time she met the love of her life (Jerry Jenkins) who preceded her in death and this union produced her last child (Dwayne). She was a loving and caring mother. Loyal to her family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Myrth loved to spoil her family and would have huge birthday/dinner parties. She would cook big dinner on Sunday’s and invite everyone to come over. If you cannot make she would packed and label each Tupperware and leave in the fridge. Myrth was always there to lend and hand to anyone in need. She loved to cook and feed everyone. If someone needed a place to stay, she was welcoming and willing to help. She was a quiet and giving person BUT wasn’t a pushover for anyone and didn’t take any foolishness. The look and the speech you know was coming. She loved her Jamaican culture and would travel home every year for extended periods. Myrth loved to travel to New Jersey for shopping with her Niece Gem, she would also travel to visit other family/friends in Florida and North Carolina. Las Vegas and Jamaica was two of her favourite places to go. Myrth enjoy her Caribbean food and music especially Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. She loved to dance – party of one sometimes (reggae-soca) when you visit her at home. She enjoy watching TV especially Soap Operas and gospel programs. Myrth was a member of New Samaritan Church. She was a devoted member and made sure her children were reared in the church. She loved the Lord and displayed herself in a way that let her family, friend and church members know that God came first in her life. Myrth was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Doris Melbourne and brother Melvin. She is survived by her brother Willie Melbourne, children; Tessa, (Orville) Winston, (Marsha) Jennifer (Michael Sr) Dwayne (Wanda) grandchildren; Twayne, Tamar, Kevin, Bryan, Shana, Ashley, Jerry, Mikayla, Dwayne Jr, and Michael Jr. Niece Miley Buckle (Gem) Bishop, Vijay and a host of relatives and friends.
