Ruth Simmons

March 21, 1925 — November 23, 2021

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” ~ Ecclesiastes 3 “A time to be born…” Mrs. Ruth Simmons was born on March 21, 1925 in Cologne Germany to the late Frederick and Josefine Konig. She was baptized in the Catholic faith in Germany and also where she began her culinary career. “A Time to laugh and a time to dance…” Ruth found great happiness in cooking and gardening, and she often enjoyed listening to the sounds of nature while drinking her morning coffee. She loved animals, and you could often find her taking care of the neighborhood cats, dogs, birds, squirrels, and even the neighborhood possum. “A Time to love…” Ruth met and married the love of her life, James Simmons in July of 1951, and they settled down in Washington, DC. From this union were born Angelika, Christine, and Keith. Raising children was one of their deepest joys, therefore, the Lord also blessed them with Deborah and Kathryn. Ruth and James were blissfully happy together for almost 65 years, until he departed this life in March of 2016. “A Time of peace…” Surrounded by her family, she departed this life peacefully on November 23, 2021.She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Angelika, Deborah, Christine and Kathryn, her son, Keith, her grandsons, Mark Christopher, Matthew James, her son-in-law, Kenneth White, and a host of loved ones. Legacy of Love A wife, a mother, a grandma too, This is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love and how to fight, You gave us strength; you gave us might A stronger person would be hard to find, And in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, Not just as a wife, not just as a mother. For all of us you gave your best, Now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep. Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Ruth Simmons please visit our Sympathy Store.
