Shirley Lea Carroll

July 3, 1940 — March 14, 2020

Shirley Lea Carroll of Mechanicsville, MD passed away peacefully on March 14, 2020 and was greeted in Heaven with open arms by our Heavenly Father. Shirley was formally from Beckley, West Virginia. Once moved to Maryland she got married and raised her children. She then went to work for NASA and retired with extremely high honors and a great deal of respect. She was a huge part of the National Association of Retired and Federal Employees(NARFE). Upon her retirement, she and her beloved husband, Edward Carroll, spent time traveling, being with family and just loving one another no matter what they did together. She never sat still for long and was always up to something, such as her quilting club, the hat club, volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital, and at her local church Hughesville Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as she inspired so many and was apart of so many lives. She was the beloved mother to her children Dwayne Johnson, Michele Johnson, and George Belfield. Sister of Bob Sutphin and sister-in-law Becky Sutphin, aunt to Bobby and Brian Sutphin. Beloved mother of children from the Carroll family, Angie Olson(Larry), Kimberly Parker (Greg), Larry Carroll (Quirina). Shirley was devoted to her grandchildren Lindsay, Logan, Christian, Jordan, Malachi, and all of the Carroll and Johnson family and so many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Carroll and her parents Ray and Sylvia Sutphin. The celebration of life will be held privately. The family greatly appreciates your love, prayers, and understanding. In lieu of flowers contributions and donations can be made to any Alzheimer's or ALS organizations.
