Susan P. Grigsby

January 5, 1978 — October 18, 2019

Loving, kind-hearted, fun, and spirited… These are a few words that remind us of Susan Peterson Sutton Grigsby, the daughter of Patricia Jennings and the late Dennis Peterson born on January 5, 1978 in Trenton, NJ. She was the only child born to this union. She departed this life unexpectedly on October 18, 2019. She was immediately joined inheaven by her grandmother, Sue T. Richardson, affectionately known as “Granny” on October 19, 2019. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA. She participated in and loved many activities including piano, ballet, tap, swimming and music. She also became a debutante in Petersburg, VA in 1994. As a young adult she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station, VA, where she assisted with directing the Young Adult Choir. Susan was a graduate of West Springfield High School in Springfield, VA. From there she attended and was a proud graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. It was there she met and later married Christopher Sutton. From this union, one son, Xavier Sutton was born. Upon graduation from Old Dominion University, she was employed with the Fairfax County Public School System within the Information Technology department. She later received a Master’s degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Additionally, she was also a member of Electa Chapter 6 - Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affliated, Jurisdiction of the District of Columbia. She later met and married Andre Grigsby, Sr adding two daughters (Ariel and Alize) and one additional son (Andre Jr.) to her family. They made their home in Waldorf, MD. At the time of her death, she was employed with the Library of Congress in Human Resources where she had many coworkers and friends. Although born an only child, Susan easily connected with others and never met a stranger. Susan was full of life and really loved and enjoyed being with and around people. She truly lived and danced to the sound of her own music. It’s what we loved most about her. She had a heart of gold and will be sorely missed. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Andre of Waldorf, MD; sons, Xavier and Andre Jr.; daughters, Ariel and Alize; grandchildren: Gabrielle, German, Shiloh, Lazaya, Lateria; parents, Willie and Patricia Jennings of Lorton, VA; mother in laws, Joyce Choice of Lincoln Park, MI, Brenda Sutton (Eric Hampton) of MD; father in law, James Sutton (Pat) of MD; grandmother, Sarah Jennings of Cope, SC; brother, Brian Peterson of Ewing, NJ; sisters: Denise Peterson of Ewing, NJ, Chauna Grigsby of Rockwood, MI, Janeen Jennings of Orangeburg, SC; uncles: Dr. Eugene Richardson of Chesterfield, VA, Bishop Dr. Terry Richardson (Anita) of Atlanta, GA; aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, many other relatives and friends.
