William Gray Moore

March 9, 1941 — April 14, 2018

William Gray Moore, 77, of Fort Washington, MD, went to eternal rest April 14, 2018 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded and held by loved ones as he took his last mighty breath. He was born in Ravenden, AR, March 9, 1941 to Elizabeth Gray Moore and William Earl Moore. He is survived by his Beloved wife of 56 years, Cleo Jane Moore. He was a loving father of four children: Robert Joseph Jenkins, Roger Lee Moore, and Anita Gail Farrell. He was preceded in death by his middle son, Timothy Lee Moore and his brother, Jerry Wayne Moore. He is survived by his mother of 96 years, Elizabeth Gray Farris. His is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Pamela Jean Jenkins, his niece Deborah Joan Phillips and her beautiful children and Grandchildren. Billy was the proud grandfather of five: Kyle, Kenny, Kristen, Chris and Samantha. He was a step grandfather of two: Heather and Jessie. He was the Great Grandfather of Hunter,Caden, Bradley, Emma, and Rylee. Crystal Watson and his past daughter in law, Nancy Rexrode were also important and loving parts of his family. Billy had many loving cousins in Arkansas and nieces and nephews in Tennessee. Billy was the dear friend of Glenn Parks, Danny Divver, Charlie Packett and many others. Billy had humble beginnings yet he was destined for success as foretold by his high school yearbook. He was nominated in his high school yearbook as “Most Likely to Succeed” and he did succeed on many fronts. He moved to the Washington, DC area in the early 1960’s to run an auto business with his father. As the years passed, Billy felt great pride in his sons as they joined the family business. His business thrived for more than 50 years. Billy had several past times that he spoke about with great enthusiasm. Gardening, cars, fishing, shooting pool and his little dog, Daisy. Billy loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Many days were spent in his yard tending to his flowers. His yard was his paradise. He preferred to be there rather than anywhere else. He loved to fish from his boat on the Chesapeake Bay and anywhere else that held the promise of a whopper. He shared his knowledge and love of fishing with his children, grandchildren and friends. If you were fishing with him and asked him if he had a fish on, he would reply “I’m fishing ain’t I?” accompanied by a grin and a chuckle. He delighted in handing youngsters a pole to “hold this for a minute” and to the holder’s surprise, there would be a big fish on the line. He wanted very much to give his buddy Glenn one more lesson. Billy was a talented pool player. His home is filled with trophies yet he was typically quiet about his prowess. He loved to share his tips and techniques. Billy loved his little dog Daisy and she was always close to his side right up to his last moment. Billy had an incredible sense of humor and a very quick wit. He had a charming smile and a boyish sense of play which made it hard to harbor a grudge when he bested you. He was generous. He was complimentary. He loved his family and friends deeply. We cry for our loss and wish him peace. He will be dearly missed. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of William Gray Moore please visit our Sympathy Store.
