Alan Jerome Carruthers, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on July 19, 1957, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Alan was the cherished son of Golder Kiser Scales.
Alan lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and deep love for those around him. He shared 36 beautiful years with his devoted husband, Mark B. Davis, creating a partnership filled with joy, mutual support, and enduring love.
He is survived by his sister Vontalaria D. Martin; nieces, nephews; and a host of treasured friends who were touched by his warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Roger W. Carruthers, Cynthia P. Wooten, and Lamont N. Carruthers Jr, and his mother Golder Kiser Scales, whose memories he carried with him always.
A proud graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Alan dedicated much of his career to service through his work with Goodwill of Greater Washington. His professional life reflected his personal values — compassion, commitment, and a belief in the potential of every individual.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Alan’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will come together to honor the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association — causes that reflect Alan’s spirit of giving and care.
Alan's life was a testament to love — for family, for community, and for the quiet strength that binds us all together. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
