Born on April 11, 1947, in Washington, DC, Al grew up in District Heights, Maryland before relocating to Southern Maryland in 1971 with his young family.
Al was a proud graduate of Suitland High School, class of 1965, and dedicated over 30 years to his career as a Purchasing Agent at PEPCO before retiring in 1999. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his work and his ability to connect with others in the electric procurement industry.
A man devoted to his family, Al is survived by his cherished daughter, Denise D’Ambrosio, and beloved son, Joseph D’Ambrosio, alongside his daughter-in-law, Jodi D’Ambrosio. He also leaves behind the joy of his granddaughters: Nikki and Petie Bowler, Jaime and Navarre Pratt, and Jessica D’Ambrosio. Al’s love extended to his life companion of 39 years, Joyce Moore, and the mother of his children, Irene Cain, who, along with her siblings - Richard and Jackie Cain, Mary and Steve Killion, and Michael Cain - were regarded by Al as family for over six decades.
Al's zest for life was mirrored in his passions, particularly as a lifelong golfer and pool player. He was also a proud survivor of lung cancer for 25 years, demonstrating his resilience and strength. Al held tightly to his Catholic faith, which was a guiding presence throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Katherine D’Ambrosio, as well as his siblings: June and James (Brook) Fernen, Jack and Candy D’Ambrosio, and Michael D’Ambrosio. Al is survived by his loving siblings, Jan Pedone and her husband Steve, Philip D’Ambrosio and his wife Susan, and Judy Calloway and her husband Dave.
Al's legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering love will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
