Alberta Freeman

January 10, 1947 — June 19, 2025

Alberta "Ally" Freeman- Walton, 78, passed away peacefully June 19,2025, in Falls Church, Virginia. Born on January 10, 1947, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late William and Elisabeth Burnett, Alberts was the youngest child in a loving family of eighteen siblings.

Known for her radiant personality, Albert brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Her warm and welcoming nature brought people together, effortlessly, making friends feel like family. She was deeply and endlessly kindhearted.

Alberta was survived by her 4 children, William C. Freeman (Son), Brandon M. Freeman (son), Angela B. Freeman (daughter), Daryl A. Freeman (son), one sister Lola Mosby, daughter-in-law Kizzy Savoy, son-in-law Abdul Kamara and husband Collis Walton. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends that will deeply miss her.

Alberta was preceded in death by her father William, mother Elisabeth, two husbands Princeton Young and William H. Freeman, Jr., 16 siblings, and a number of other family members and friends.

Alberta was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, growing up in the King's Apostle Church. She sang in two groups: The Cheeriotes in 1961 and the Mighty Clouds of Faith in 1966. She attended South Hagerstown High School, where she graduated in 1965. She worked in banking for 30 years, breaking barriers as the first black teller at First National Bank of Hagerstown. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1976, where she met her husband William H. Freeman, Jr. (who preceded her in death) and had four children. She continued her career in banking at Andrews Federal Credit Union, BB&T and Washington's Saving Bank until she retired in 2010. She moved back to Hagerstown, MD and remarried to Collis Walton in 2020. She loved working with children, which inspired her to become a substitute teacher and camp counselor in Prince George's County school district. She enjoyed expressing herself creatively by indulging in such activities as cooking, hosting parties with friend and family, decorating, creating arts and crafts, and writing songs and stories.

Although Alberts's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, wife and friend. Her light will forever shine brightly in our hearts and minds.
