Andre Juan Marbley

December 30, 1948 — November 20, 2021

André Juan Marbley passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was born in Washington, DC to the late Cliff and Vera Marbley-Brannum on December 30, 1948. Andre’s stepmom, Sophia Marbley also preceded him in death. He was the tenth of fifteen children. André was baptized as a Christian into the Catholic faith in his early teens and rededicated his life to Jesus Christ before his passing. André was educated in the Public School system in Washington, DC. He graduated from Anacostia High School and shortly after went into the Army in 1968. He served as a Medical Technician in the Viet Nam War. After his military service, he attended Washington Technical College in Washington, DC. André met his former wife Carolyn Battle in 1971 and they married in 1974. Andre and Carolyn spent many memorable occasions with family and friends during their marriage. They remained friends until his death. In André’s younger years, he was especially close to his eight brothers, many nephews, and nieces, and always had a good relationship with his sisters. André worked as a Federal Government employee with the Government Printing Office and the Department of Agriculture in the seventies before working at Verizon as a Cable Splicing Technician where he retired from in 2005. After he retired, André became known in his neighborhood as “Pop”. He was always willing to help those in need. André had the unique ability to accept people for who they are without any judgement or biases. One of André’s favorite pastimes was listening to oldies and singing Karaoke, especially the Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, and the O ’Jays. André was a fun-loving person who could talk and debate for hours. He also liked to hand dance and bop. André was very opinionated and did not mind telling you when you were wrong. André adored children and let them have their way by allowing them to eat all the candy and sweets they wanted. André was loved by many family members, friends, and was called grandfather to several children he cared for. A long-time partner, Kimberly Brown (deceased); her children, Latia Solomon and Lemore Womack will cherish the time spent with André. A proud and devoted family man of three sons, he leaves to cherish his memories his two sons, John Graham and Troy Marbley. Dustin Shuler preceded him in death. He was also loved by six brothers Cliff Marbley, Harlan “Pee-Wee” Marbley (deceased), Ronald “Ronnie” Marbley (deceased), Michel Brannum (Dottie), Tyran Brannum (Gwen), Gary Brannum, Bret Brannum (Millie), and Rodney Brannum. Seven sisters Dale Marbley, Shirley Richardson, Portia Tyndle, Diane Smith, Elsie Bailey, Candy Marbley, and René Marbley. Six grandsons, John Gibson, Alex Marbley, Zachary Marbley, Noah Marbley, Jabari Graham, Joshua Marbley, and one great-grandson Johnathan Gibson. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
