Angela "Angie" Higgs passed away in her home in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland on Sunday June 7, 2026. Angie was born September 20, 1958 to Julian and Mildred Dobbins in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Angie was one of seven children. Growing up the family lived in many different states following her father's Air Force career, even as far as Yokohama, Japan, before finally ending up in Maryland in 1968.
Angie graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1976. She had a long career in admin, working for many private and government entities before retiring from the Calvert County State's Attorney's office in 2021.
Outside of her professional life, Angie was an avid craftswoman, turning fabrics and yarn into countless quilts, throws, socks, sweaters and most prolific of all, hats. For several years, she would knit at minimum 100 winter hats for the Angel Tree at her husband's office; there were always needles and a ball of yarn in her purse. She was also a fervent animal lover, never meeting a dog she didn't want to pet, a cat she didn't try to befriend, or a horse she didn't want to feed carrots; a love she passed on to her nieces. Angie also enjoyed gardening, diligently weeding her and her husband's garden every summer and enjoying the fruits and vegetables they grew and harvested together.
Angie was the first to offer assistance to anyone and everyone she met. She was a "what can I do?" and "what do you need?" type of person. Her laugh was as loud and vibrant as she was and the smile that accompanied it lit up the room. Her cheers at countless bowling tournaments, baseball games, and horseback riding events for her sons, grandchildren, and nieces were easy to pick out of the crowd. Her own athletic endeavors were limited to her bowling league and semi competitive bingo.
Angie is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Richard "Rick" Higgs, sons Richard J. and Andrew (Stephanie Campbell) and; siblings Grady (Cindy), Charlotte (Edward), Elaine (Richard), Brenda, and Denise; and many grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces and nephews whom affectionately called her "Lala". She is preceded in death by both her parents, her brother, Bradley, and countless dogs, cats, and a stubborn old bird named Matthew.
