Anthony Woodward

November 15, 1938 — October 28, 2025

Mr. Anthony Theodore Woodward, age 87, of Landover, MD, passed away peacefully at his residence. He was born November 15, 1938, in Hyattsville, MD, eldest son of the late Anthony Woodward and Margaret Queen.

Woody, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love and compassion. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him, not for the way his life ended, bur for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who loved him.

Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Zepherine Woodward, older sister, Mary Francis, and three brothers, Fred, Albert and Francis. Woody is survived by his children Anthony (Carmen) Woodward, Angela (Jay) Jones, and Duane (Kenya) Woodward; his grandchildren, Ikesha, Anthony, Justin, Kelsey, Kaila and Austin (Anthony); Justin and Jessica (Angela); Dominique, Cameron, Te’Andre, Kyron, Keely, Kaden, Chelsea, Duane, Kenzania, Jayceon and JaNiyah; many great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara, and two brothers, James and Glen; his loving companion, Ruth Johnson and many other family and friends who will dearly miss him.

After his graduation from Fairmont Heights High School in 1956, Woody enlisted in the United States Air Force as a fireman. His assignments took him to Montana, USA and North Africa. Upon completion of his enlistment, he returned home and began working for the Government Printing Office. His enjoyment for printing led him to one of his favorite pastimes - creating greeting cards for everyone. During this time, he discovered his love for the martial arts. He started this journey with Dake Dojo and wanted to give back to his community by branching off and opening his own studio “Universal Karate Studio”.

However, his desire for further knowledge led him to Rembukan Dojo and the study of the Japanese art of Iaido.

Those who knew Woody will remember him for his sharp wit, infectious smile, and overwhelming love of music. His unwavering commitment to everyone was taken care of with no need to want. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
