Barbara Lou Susaraba “Bobby”, 93, of 8501 Bayside Road, Chesapeake Beach, Maryland passed away peacefully on October 3rd, at South River Nursing Home with her daughter and Son-in-Law by her side. Bobby was born May 24, 1930, in Washington, D.C. Guy L. Schultz and Mildred C. Schultz (Cissel).
She graduated from Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland where she was raised. Bobby was a civil service government employee throughout her entire career spending most of that time working at Malcom Grow Hospital on Joint Base Andrews. She distinguished herself during that long tenure as a valuable and loyal employee.
Bobby married Joseph K. Barnes, a member of the United States Air Force in 1950 in Clinton, Maryland. She later married Joseph M. Susaraba of Pennsylvania who was also a member of the US Air Force and veteran of both the Korean and Vietnamese wars. After retirement Barbara and Joe Bought a motorhome and traveled extensively around the United States. They managed to visit 48 of the 50 United States. Bobby completed the last two states after Joe’s death.
Barbara had a bountiful garden for many summers and enjoyed working in her yard. In later years she enjoyed playing poker, playing bingo at the Rod N’ Reel, and playing slot machines. Barbara also had a talent for making flyers and announcements for her condo community and attended computer classes to hone her skills. She also took beautiful photos of sunrises from her building, which she shared with her family and friends.
Remaining to cherish Bobby’s memory are her sister Patricia Smith and her children Susan Barnes, Joy Bannister, Cheryl Yurko, Craig Barnes, and Tonya Elliott. Her grandchildren include Stasia Sobotka, Ben Bannister Christy Butler, Jennifer Watson, Craig Barnes Bryan Barnes, Austin Barnes, Zachary Barnes, and Marissa Barnes. She will also be remembered by 10 great grandchildren.
Preceding Bobby in death are her husband Joseph M. Susaraba, brother Guy L. Schultz, and her parents Guy and Mildred Schultz.
