Bernie Hastings, 64, of Hughesville, Maryland, departed peacefully on March 6th, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Bernie was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in Maryland. He attended several parochial and public schools in the area and graduated from South River High School.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Sheila Almalel Hastings; his son, Sean (Brianne); his daughter, Danielle; his son, Joshua Taylor; and his daughter, April Taylor. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry (Margot), Vic, and Mike; his sisters, Tina Durell (Mark) and Martha Packard (Rick); and his cherished grandchildren, Tatiana Simmons, Abriella and Braden DeMarr, Preston and Blakelyn Ramey, and Abel and Hannah Taylor, along with many cousins, relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Rita Hastings; his daughter, Tiffany Simmons; and his brother, Dean Hastings.
Bernie was an AJ Journeyman Electrician with Local 26 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he performed industrial and commercial electrical work and was highly respected by his fellow electricians for his knowledge, skill, and leadership on the job site.
In his free time, Bernie enjoyed hunting and fishing, eating crabs, watching NASCAR, working on his home and in his yard, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Brewsky, Sarge, and Rocket.
Interment will be held at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bernie’s memory to the American Cancer Society or the Lung Cancer Foundation.
