Beryl Sweetenburg passed away peacefully at home in North Beach, Maryland. Born in York, England, to William and Elsie Broadhead, Beryl was their only child.
At 17, she met her husband, Lewis, while he was stationed in York with the U.S. Air Force. She moved to the United States in 1957, and they were married in Washington, D.C. Together, they raised four children—Taft, LaWan, Angelo, and Tina—who became the center of her world.
Beryl worked many years at Talbert’s Ice and Beverage in Bethesda, MD, but her greatest joy came from her family. She loved family dinners, beach trips to Sandy Point and Ocean City, playing bingo, and cheering for the Washington Redskins. She will be remembered for her honesty, strength, and devotion to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, and two sons, Taft (Denise) and Angelo. She is survived by her children, LaWan and Tina (late Tony); grandchildren, Shainna, Krystal (Rohan), Antonio II “Tony” (Mia), Nicole, and Kevin; and great- grandchildren, Ciona, Sage, and Antonio III “Little Tony”. She is also remembered with love by her sisters-in-law Jackie Wilson (Jimmy) and Gloria Lane (late Phillip).
Beryl re-dedicated her life to her Catholic faith in 2013 and became a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in 2020. Her legacy of love, family, and resilience will continue to shine through all who knew her.
