Bettye Ellsworth Ryan

Bettye Ellsworth Ryan, 94, of Hagerstown, MD, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Bettye was born on October 16, 1929, in Sedalia, Missouri to the late Emery and Avenell Ellsworth.  

She grew up in Sedalia and graduated from Smith Cotton High School. 

She married Bobby D. Ryan in 1952 and became an Air Force wife.  They were married for 48 years when she was widowed in September of 2000. She is survived by her two children, Patricia Olsen and Michael Ryan; her grandsons, Ryan Olsen and Sean Ryan; and her great grandchildren, Eila and Drew Olsen, and Cash, Cali, Cade, and Cora Ryan

Bettye retired from the Prince Georges' County School Board. She loved travelling all over the world on group trips with all of her organizations.  She also enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren play their many sports.  

Bettye joins her husband, Bobby, her granddaughter, Megan, and her parents, Avenell and Emery, in heaven.

She will be remembered as a sweet lady who loved performing readings at church and at her various organizations.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD, after the first of the year.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bettye's name to:  Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
