On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, our beloved Blonnie Mae Jones at the age of 84 years old, transitioned into eternal rest and everlasting peace.
Blonnie Mae Jones was born on January 27, 1941, in North Hampton County, North Carolina to Floyd and Elvira Moody. She was raised in a home that was built on family love, tradition, and great southern meals.
Blonnie attended and graduated from Gumberry High School in Gumberry, North Carolina and later received her license as a cosmetologist after attending cosmetology schools in North Carolina and California. Blonnie loved being a cosmetologist and worked for over 30 years at the Hair Cuttery in Clinton, Maryland where she made so many friends. For Blonnie being a cosmetologist was not just “doing hair,” but it is the art of putting a smile on someone’s face and reminding them that they were beautiful before and after they sat in her chair. While she made everyone else look amazing, she also had her special shades of red hair dye that were mandatory for her own hair, there was no exceptions to that at all.
On March 5, 1962, Blonnie married the love of her life, Dock E. Jones and shortly afterwards, she gave birth to her son, Vincent (Vinnie) Glen Jones, who is now preceded by death. Due to her husband being in the United States Air Force, the family moved to Germany (1969-1970), to Florida, Massachusetts and Riverside, California, Washington, D.C., and finally to Clinton, Maryland (1976- present).
Blonnie was known as the “Neighborhood Grandmother” as she handed out lollipops, food and sometimes money to the neighborhood kids of which she was very fond. Remembering the days when going to Blonnie’s house meant eating delicious crabs, fried fish, Uncle Dock’s famous ribs, Blonnie’s Apple Crisp, playing Tunk (card game), and having a fun time. Blonnie always showed love and shared memories with her brother-in laws, Lorenzo and Faulkner Jones and her sisters through marriage, Miram and Carolyn.
She loved her family and especially her son Vinnie, who would fondly laugh and call his mother “Clucky” at times, which always irritated her, but she’d find a quick second to roll her eyes and laugh at him.
Blonnie was preceded by death by her parents, her son, three sisters: Jeanette McCloud, Helena Garner, Edna Moody, brother: Floyd Moody, Jr., and brother-in-law, Booker T. Garner.
She is survived by her husband, Dock E. Jones of Clinton, Maryland, Inell Fenwick (David), Mary R. Reed, Ben Moody (Wilma), Charles E. Moody (Jearline), Gloria Settles, and William R. Moody (Marcella), and a host of nieces, nephews and a host of many relatives and friends.
