A Life of Honor, Service, and Legacy

Calvin Tisdale departed this life on October 12, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born on October 10, 1951, in Greenville, Mississippi, he was the beloved son of Zadie Lee Smith. Calvin Tisdale spent his formative years in Greenville, Mississippi, where he developed his love for cars, blues music, southern food, and culture. He attended Coleman High School where he played the tuba.

His life was defined by service, hard work, and resilience, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Honorable Military Service and Professional Life

Answering the call to serve his country, Calvin proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970.

During his 24 years of military service, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served in Korea, Japan, Germany, England, Philippines, in garrison, and retired in Washington, D.C.

Throughout his military career, he distinguished himself through his dedication and technical expertise. His service awards included Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, multiple awards for Outstanding Unit, Good Conduct, and Overseas Tour Ribbon.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1994, he carried forward the values of duty, patriotism, and service that shaped his military career. Following his military service, Calvin pursued a career in security for the Department of Energy where he proudly served for another 20 plus years and he was known for his work ethic, professionalism, and sense of humor.

His dedication to serving his country remained a proud and defining chapter of his life.

Family and Interests

Outside of his professional pursuits, he enjoyed muscle cars – working on them, collecting them, and racing them – as well as soulful music, traveling the world, and delicious food.

Above all, Calvin was a loving father, devoted husband, proud grandfather, brother, and friend.

Calvin began his journey into fatherhood with the birth of his first child, Calvin Curtis Tisdale Jr. He later married Virginia Aquino Cenon and together they welcomed Derrick Lamont Tisdale and Candice Aquino Tisdale.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his children: Calvin, Derrick, and Candice; and his beloved grandchildren: Dejuan, Chloe, London, and Alex; his great-grandchild: Marcel; and his siblings, Joseph (Charles), Zadier (Niecey), and Jacqueline (Jackie) who will carry his legacy forward. He was preceded in death by his mother, Zadie, and his wife, Virginia.
