On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Catherine Therese McGowan (Teri) passed peacefully at home while surrounded by family and friends. Beloved sister who is survived by her six siblings, Joan Goldsmith, Eileen Ford, Mary Jo Sputo, Terence McGowan, Robert McGowan and Gary McGowan. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Blaine Ford, Caitlin Ford, Maddie Ford, Katy Sputo, Ryan McGowan, Chris McGowan, Ashley Donahue, and Alexandra McGowan. Her mother, Joan Ryan Johnson, and father, Joseph A. McGowan, are both deceased.
Catherine graduated from Towson State University in 1978 earning a Bachelor of Music (BME) in Music Education. Soon after she furthered her studies by earning two master’s degrees in related fields.
She was gifted with a rich soulful mezzo soprano voice and loved to sing in group choirs and perform at family weddings and funerals. Music was her language, her solace and her expression of connecting with her loved ones.
Catherine enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlepointing, writing poems and cooking. However, the most passionate hobbies later in life were arts and crafts. She made beautiful, personal gift items for family and friends to enjoy.
