Christine H Sydnor

Dec 16, 1952 — Oct 11, 2026

Christine Hardwicke Sydnor (73) beloved wife of Russell B Sydnor passed away unexpectedly on October 11th, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Russ, and children Christopher, Philip, and Mary Sydnor; two grandchildren Wyatt and Marilyn Sydnor; as well as her siblings Jill Lounsbury, Sandra Child, John Hardwicke, Heidi Emerson and Timothy Hardwicke; and her little mini poodle Finch. Christine received a bachelor's degree in sociology-anthropology from the University of Puget Sound and had an extensive career in social work and education. She served in several leadership positions for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maryland, the Women's Center of Calvert County, and was named Woman of the Year for Calvert County, at one point. She worked in both special education and home teaching in Calvert County Public Schools and served on the board of directors for Holy Trinity Episcopal School in Prince George's County.

In her personal life, Christine was a wonderful artist and a world renowned knitter and quilter. She posted completed knitting projects on the Ravelry website where she received accolades from international reviewers. Her family and friends enjoyed discussing everything with her, from literature and theology to art and history. Christine made fast friends with everyone she met and always kept everyone laughing. After retiring, she enjoyed visiting her family and especially seeing her grandkids. Everyone who ever tasted her famous apple pie, Maryland crab cakes, chicken cordon bleu, and beef stroganoff agreed they were the best they'd ever had. She always had a new knitting project underway, usually giving away completed pieces to her grandkids, children, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was revered and deeply cherished by herfamily and will be sorely missed.

Memorial services are being planned and this obituary will be updated with the details.
