David Moreno, 91, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed peacefully Saturday, February 7, 2026. David was born to the late Nicolas and Mary (Hill) Moreno in San Antonio, Texas on January 23, 1935. After childhood in San Antonio, David joined the United States Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Emma Tamez, in March 1955. David and Emma had three children, Cynthia, Michael, and Peter.
David's career in the Air Force gave him the opportunity to explore the U.S. and the world. His work in satellite communications took him to Illinois, California, Florida, Maryland, France, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Turkey, finally settling in Maryland. David retired from the USAF after 21 years. He then worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a programmer until 2001. He had a lifetime love of technology and was an early adopter of many new consumer electronics. The basement of his house was cluttered with numerous computer parts.
David and Emma continued their travels during his civilian life. They took many trips in the U.S. and abroad. He was adventurous in travel, frequently going off the tourist routes. He always calculated that the people he encountered would be kind and that there would always be someone who could speak English, Spanish, or French! He passed his love of travel on to his granddaughters starting with their first international trip at ages 5 and 9.
David was an active member of Brookfield Methodist Church in Brandywine and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for many years. He gave many hours to these organizations and made many friends. David will be remembered for his friendliness, kindness, stoicism, and loyalty. He had the ability to talk to anyone and everyone. He loved to hear people's stories. He had cardiac problems for many years but rarely complained and recovered well following two cardiac bypass surgeries. He took care of Emma, without complaint or assistance, for twelve years as she declined due to Alzheimer's.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Mary, Emma, his wife of 66 years, and his brother, Daniel. He is survived by his three children, Cynthia Moreno and her husband, JP Dunn, Michael, his wife, Sharon Moreno, and Peter Moreno, his granddaughters and their families, Kathleen Dunn, her husband, Zack Wolfenzon, their children, Charlotte and Leo, and Marisa Dunn and husband, Wilson Turner, his brothers Dennis and Diego Moreno, and their families.
