Deborah “Debbie” Chaney, 74, of Owings, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 18, 2026. Debbie was born in Washington, D.C. on December 5, 1951, to Vivian and Wilbur Taylor. She was raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and eventually moved to Calvert County, Maryland, where she remained for the rest of her life.
Debbie dedicated years to caring for children as a daycare provider and spent many years employed with RadioShack in Dunkirk, Maryland, where she developed numerous friendships and connections throughout the community. She was known for her outgoing personality, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh. Debbie never met a stranger. She enjoyed gardening and spent countless hours tending to her flowers and plants around her home.
Debbie shared over 40 years with her longtime partner, Russell Cox Jr., with whom she built a life filled with love, laughter, and many cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian and Wilbur Taylor, and her sister, Lisa Taylor Smiroldo.
Debbie is survived by her loving partner, Russell Cox Jr. of Owings, Maryland; her granddaughter, Natalia Chaney of Towson, Maryland; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Debbie will be remembered for her humor, honesty, free spirit, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories she created and the laughter she shared.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home–Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, Maryland 20736. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Southern Memorial Gardens, 10155 Ward Road, Dunkirk, Maryland 20754.”
