Deborah M Sanders

Mar 29, 1954 — Jun 17, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deborah Marie Sanders, who left us on June 17, 2026, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was 72 years old: a cherished daughter, devoted wife, loving stepmother, and beloved grandmother. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Martha North.

Debbie, as she was affectionately known, dedicated her professional life to the field of environmental sanitation, working diligently for the Anne Arundel County Health Department after starting her career at the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Her commitment and compassion for her work reflected her desire to enhance her community's well-being.

Debbie is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Raymond Sanders, of Huntingtown, Maryland, whose unwavering love was a source of strength throughout her life. She leaves behind her cherished sister, Barbara Terry of Annapolis, and two beloved stepdaughters: Lisa Ray and her husband, Gregory, of Woodstock, Maryland, and Jennifer Riggs and her husband, Ronnie, of Cove City, North Carolina. Deborah was the proud grandmother of four: Brennan Ray, Connor Ray, Caiden Riggs, and Whitley Riggs. She is also survived by her nephew Kenneth Terry and his wife, Jennifer, of Annapolis, along with her stepbrother, Steven and his wife, Cheri, of Hanover, and their daughters, Samantha and Renee.

Throughout her life, Debbie's profound love for horses was evident. Her passion for riding, training, and teaching others about these magnificent animals defined her joyful spirit. She took great delight in nurturing her stepdaughters, treating them not simply as steps, but as her own flesh and blood, imparting the joys of horse riding and instilling cherished memories.

As we gather to honor Debbie's life, we invite all who knew her to reflect on the indelible mark she left on our hearts and to carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for nature. Let us come together to pay tribute to a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
