Diane Barbara Parker was born to Howard Jerome Parker (neé Plotke) and Manola Bourbon Parker on New Year’s Eve, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. She arrived just eleven months after her beloved older brother, Douglas Barry Parker (January 23, 1945- September 11, 2021). Their sister, Manola, passed away during her infancy. The Parkers resided in Miami, Florida, where they were close to their mother’s three sisters and numerous cousins, especially Aunt Marie and Cousins Steve and Kathy.
Diane graduated from Miami Senior High School on June 10, 1963. No doubt influenced by her Aunt Marie’s couture dress shop and her mother Manola’s exceptional talent as a seamstress, Diane’s lasting penchant for fashionable outfits and coordinating pairs of shoes was already well-established by the time she graduated. However, it was her ability to make and keep lifelong friendships, beginning with Ann in elementary school, that is one of Diane’s most profound legacies.
In 1974, Diane and her husband moved to Reston, Virginia with two of her daughters, Lisa Lavallee (neé Curry) and Mary Supley. Their third daughter, Elizabeth Supley, was born in 1981 when Diane was living in Herndon for the first time. Supporting her husband’s career, Diane’s family continued to move. They explored the Midwest in Wayne, Nebraska, and the Mid-Atlantic region in Great Neck, New York, before returning to Northern Virginia. Diane settled in Herndon, her favorite town with her favorite parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She moved to Harbor House on Grace Street in 2012. As pink was her favorite color, Diane was pleased to reside in the building with a strikingly pink exterior. Yet, it was the many wonderful friendships she made among her neighbors that truly brought Diane joy while living there.
Before retiring, Diane worked as a school clinic aide and managed many different types of retail stores, including card and stationery stores, and children’s and adult clothing stores. She made sure that her three grandchildren, and two great- grandsons, were impeccably attired. The bigger the bows for her granddaughter, the better!
Diane enjoyed creating hand-made cards, crocheting beautiful baby blankets, and a variety of other crafts. She was a master of Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed planning parties for the birthdays of her friends. Since she had so many friends, there were many parties. She cherished the time spent with family and friends.
Diane had fond memories of celebrating New Year’s Eve and her own birthday as a teenager – including a very memorable 18th birthday with her dear friend, Chita. She was looking forward to celebrating her 80th birthday with family and friends in a couple of weeks. Diane is loved, and will be missed by everyone who knew her, including her family and dear friends far and near, her neighbors and church community. May she rest in peace at the manger in heaven this Christmas!
