Our Beloved Mother Doris Jean Johnson has gone to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior, she passed away beautifully in the morning on Sunday November 03, 2024. Ms. Johnson is preceded by death of her siblings & parents, Harold Jones, Julia Jones, Mr. Andrew Taft Jones Sr. & Mrs. Elsie Bertha Jones. Her surviving relative is her brother Andrew Taft Jr & Lisa A. Jones.
Ms. Johnson was born in the county of McDowell in the city of Excelsior in War, West Virginia on September 28, 1950 to Mr. Anderw & Mrs. Elsie Jones Jr. Ms. Johnson was always helping out her parents. Ms. Johnson was a cheerleader and on the basketball team. Doris attended college at West Virginia State University then transferred to Howard University at District of Columbia where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974. In addition, Doris belonged to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Ms. Johnson later received her master’s degree from Central Michigan University, Andrews AFB, Maryland in Health Care Administration in 1988.
Ms. Johnson married Ellsworth Maurice Johnson Jr. on July 15, 1972 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in District of Columbia. They’ve been married for 53 years. Ms. Johnson made all of her bridesmaids’ dresses for the wedding. Ms. Johnson had 2 daughters by birth, Holly Renee Johnson Reeves & Kinberly Johnson. Ms. Johnson gained another daughter, Colleen Rachel Grant. Ms. Johnson has two sons-in-law, Michael Reeves & Elliott Grant. Ms. Johnson has 10 grandchildren: Xenobia, Xavier, Solomon, Solatare, Mechelle, Kyoko, Kymora, Octavius, Oracle & William.
Ms. Johnson has worked in the healthcare profession for 39 years. She has worked at Columbia Hospital for Women as a nurse in the NICU. Then she moved into the position as Director of NICU and later as Vice President of Patient Healthcare and at one point was acting CEO while the hospital was searching for a new candidate. She was at Columbia Hospital for Women for 24 years. Doris was assigned to care for many prestigious people throughout her career. Ms. Johnson knew she wanted to take on bigger projects that would put Columbia Hospital on the map that would address women’s health. She helped to create The Women’s Expo fair while at Columbia Hospital for Women. It was the first to do an event like this and it would was a big hit because it had never been done before. She worked many hours and days to make this project come to life. Whether you were her husband or child she was going to put you to work for Kaiser Permanente as Medical Facility Administrator/Services Line Manager. Eventually she became Kaiser Permanente Regional Medical Specialties Business Manager & Senior Practices Manager later. Ms. Johnson took a job as Executive Consultant with Mid Atlantic Permanente Group. Once that position ended, she worked for Active Health Management as Clinical Outcomes Manager before retiring.
Ms. Johnson enjoyed reading romance novels and taking vacation trips to the beach. Doris was not only a wife, mother, or friend, she was an angel with a big heart and a lot of love to share.
