Edward Allan "Stoney" Gordon, 60, of Cheltenham, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 2, 1965, in Washington, D.C., to Shirley and Edward Gordon, Stoney grew up as a fun-loving and spirited child. Known for his mischievous nature and infectious, booming laugh, he brought happiness and joy to all who knew him. A natural athlete, Stoney enjoyed playing basketball, football, soccer, and baseball throughout his youth. Unknown to many, he was also a talented artist, creating detailed portraits and drawings that he shared with family and friends.
After graduating from Suitland High School in 1983, Stoney answered a higher calling and joined the Prince George's County Police Department. He served his community with distinction and pride for over 27 years before his retirement in 2013 with the esteemed title of Lieutenant. Stoney's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather. For 36 years, he shared an enduring bond of love and laughter with his wife, Cynthia "Cindy" Gordon. Together, they built a home rooted in strength, warmth, and unwavering support. Stoney was a supportive father to his two daughters, Brittany Lozupone (Brendan) and Caitlin Mohler (Hunter), and a beloved "Pops" to his grandchildren Raegan and Charlotte Lozupone and Carter, Canton, and Blake Mohler. He especially cherished his time coaching his daughter's softball teams, where he was affectionately known as "Coach Stoney."
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Sherry White (Ralph), and his brother, Jerry Weston; as well as his nieces and nephews: Shane White, Rebecca Marsee (Britny), Dawn Ammen (David), Troy Parlett (Amber), Tara Wright (Josh), Tanya Neghanquet (Tommy), and Michael Beall. He was also a cherished uncle to numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Stoney will be remembered not only for his service and strength, but for his boundless sense of humor and his compassion. His big heart, sharp wit, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued has left an indelible mark on those who had the honor of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the family he so deeply loved and in the many lives he touched.
A celebration of life for Stoney will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, Maryland. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM. All who knew and loved Stoney are invited to attend and share in remembering a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made in Stoney's memory to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), supporting those affected by Primary Progressive Aphasia and driving research toward a cure.
