Edward “Bobby” Travis
Sunrise July 10, 1946 – Sunset September 16, 2025
On September 16, 2025, Edward Travis departed this world and was called home to be with our Father in Heaven. Edward Travis, affectionately known as “Bobby” was the third of twelve siblings born to the late Charlie Sr. and Martha Spears Travis July 10, 1946, in Liberty, Mississippi. Edward met the love of his life Felicia Bellazer, and they were joined together in holy matrimony in the fall of 1970. They continued to share their love for the next 55 years. To this union two sons were born: Shelvan Edward Travis and Calvin Olin Travis. Edward accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Norwood, LA, under the leadership of Pastor Sterling Collins. During his teen years he was a member of a gospel group, The Morning Stars, singing with his father and brothers. In his later years, he found a new church home at Mount Ennon Baptist Church, Clinton, MD, where he served faithfully – especially singing in the Male Chorus and volunteering his time with the Men for Christ. He served faithfully until his health declined. Edward began his education at 8th Ward Elementary School in East Feliciana Parish. Later, his family relocated to Montpelier, Louisiana, where he continued his schooling. He graduated from St. Helena High School in Greensburg, Louisiana, with the Class of 1966. His fellow classmates looked up to him as a leader – someone who was social and likable and was able to form lifelong friendships. On June 15, 1966, after graduating from High School, Edward answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force along with several of his classmates. He went on to serve our country for over 20 years. During his military career, Edward was recognized with various medals and citations and was able to advance to the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, Edward worked for Strayer University for the next ten years. During his time at Strayer University, Edward went on to achieve his educational goals and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland and a Master of Science in Accounting from Strayer University at Takoma Park, Washington, DC. Edward retired in 2008 and began to spend more quality time with his family and friends. He was able to renew his attention to his favorite hobbies, fishing, listening to jazz music, watching sports and westerns, and relaxing with a good cup of coffee while sitting on the back porch. Throughout his life Edward has been a beacon of goodwill by helping his fellow man. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and caring brother who loved his family. A man who never asked for much but was always willing to give what was asked of him. Edward leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Felicia Bellazer Travis of White Plains, MD; two sons, Shelvan Edward Travis (Elisia) of Waldorf, MD, and Calvin Olin Travis of Baltimore, MD; and Four grandchildren, Tyrik Travis, Atiana Bean, Kayla Travis, and Jayden Travis, all of Waldorf, MD. He is also survived by five brothers: Will Henry Travis Sr. of Kenner, LA; Samuel Travis Sr. (Essie) of Kenner, LA; L.K. Travis (Laurie) of Montpelier, LA; Charlie Travis Jr. of Montpelier, LA; and Lawrence Travis (Carolyn) of Amite, LA. Three Sisters: Elnoria Pikes of Montpelier, LA; Estella Ursin (James) of LaPlace, LA; and Sylvana Travis of Folsom, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Sr. & Martha Spears Travis; two sisters, Clara Mae Travis Williams and Florence Travis; and one brother, Louis Travis.
