Elvie Etta Alexander, 82, of Brandywine, MD passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 10, 1942 in Sykesville, MD she was the 10th and youngest child of the late James Porter and Anna May (Bowser) Black. Elvie was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Alfred R. Alexander. She is survived by two daughters: Edith Lynn Dove (Joseph) and Beth Anne Chavez (Hugo); grandchildren: Megan Mazer and her husband Sean, Joey Dove, and Paul Chavez; and many nieces and nephews. Elvie was preceded in death by her best friend of 60 years, Carol Hammer, and survived by Carol’s children Terry, Micki, and Michael, to whom she was a second mother and known as Aunt Elvie.

She was a loving mother and a caring friend to so many and known as Memum to her grandchildren. In fact, she was Mom or Memum to everyone, was a trusted confidant, and gave wise counsel. Anyone that knew Elvie, probably heard her say, “Give me strength,” which was her favorite expression. Actually, strength was her gift to us. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM where a Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. Contributions in Elvies’s name may be made to The Memorial Fund of Grace Brethren Church, 9870 Old Solomon's Island Rd. Owings, MD 20736.
