Ernest William Bean, Sr. “Ernie” born September 14, 1953 to Thomas R. Bean and Cora “Aleen” Griffith. He passed away April 17, 2022 in transport from his home in Saint Leonard, MD. He was pronounced at Calvert Health Center.
Ernie grew up in the Upper Marlboro area graduating from Frederick Sasscer High School. He married Dottie in 1976, and stayed in the Upper Marlboro area.
He was employed for over 32 years at MNCPPC where he was involved in many park events including, The Festival of Lights at Watkins Park. He was once an active member of the IOOF Lodge in Forestville and was a member of the 4-H Club in Calvert County. Ernie loved camping (this is where he met Dottie), working on projects, helping others and chatting about whatever he knew. He loved time with his kids, grand kids and any other kids that became like family. Challenging them to do more than they thought they could do was his greatest strength, then seeing them meet that challenge was his greatest joy.
With whacky ways, Ernie kidded around a lot. Singing and dancing at home with or without a partner, but mostly with his grandson, Joshua. Ernie spoke his mind whether you liked it or not (a family thing) but would never hold a grudge, you just move on and continue. Yes, he was a dog lover but cats won his heart as did a little mini horse. No, he just couldn’t warm up to the snakes, iguanas and lizards that also lived in his home.
Ernie is survived by his wife; Dottie, daughter, Shirley Bean (Malik), sons; Ernie Bean, Jr. (Jess), Evan Bean (Megan), grandsons; Joshua and Joey Brown, granddaughter, Jade Brown, Sister, Sandra Bean, Nieces; Michelle and April, nephews; Danny, Bryce, Ryan and Kyle and countless cousins, friends and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Land Owings, MD 20736 on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm to share happy stories. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
If he could talk to you right now he would say, “Thank you for your time in my life” then with a yawn and stretch “I don’t know about you, but I’m going to bed.”
